After being acquired by the Pittsburgh Steelers in March, cornerback Donte Jackson is scheduled to become a free agency in March. Jackson, however, had a fantastic start to the season but a steep decline by the end of his one season with the squad. Jackson intends to rejoin the Steelers, but for now, he will have to wait to determine his future with the team.
Jackson stated in an interview with the Christian Kuntz podcast that he had a terrific time in Pittsburgh during his one season there and that he would be thrilled to return.
“I hope to return,” Jackson remarked. There will be another free agency soon. I’m just thankful to be in this position and have the opportunity to sign a third deal. Because, dude, men don’t reach two. Just being able to position myself to sign three is fantastic and a blessing. fantastic chance for my family and me. We hope to return. Although we adore it, business is business.
Toward the end of the season, Jackson missed two games due to a persistent back issue, but his performance declined dramatically. Before a series of injuries robbed him of his physicality, he was a standout member of the team.
Jackson, the team’s second cornerback, struggled in the closing games after being acquired by the Steelers from the Carolina Panthers in the Diontae Johnson trade last summer. Pittsburgh might try to re-sign him on a low-cost contract that would only likely give him a depth role.
Jackson set a career high with five interceptions this season. If Jackson returns, it will likely be as a depth player or as a veteran placeholder because the Steelers appear to be looking to add fresh talent to the outside and slot cornerback positions.
