One week after experiencing a medical crisis during a sermon, Christian pastor and motivational speaker T.D. Jakes provided an update on his health on Sunday.

Jakes made a virtual appearance for the Potter’s House Church he leads to speak to the congregation during the live-streamed service following the frightening incident.

The 67-year-old said that after being taken to the intensive care unit, he is recuperating following emergency surgery.

Later, he posted the update on Instagram.

It’s a pleasure to see you. I’m thankful for God’s consistency. I am appreciative of your loyalty. In a YouTube video, he expressed gratitude for this stage of his life. I am here because I promised to visit you this Sunday last Sunday. I thank God for his kindness and goodness.

The touching update was made a few days after the pastor was spotted in social media footage on Nov. 24 pausing his hour-long sermon to look down and lower his microphone while speaking onstage. As other churchgoers hurried to the stage and gathered around him, he suddenly started to shake. The church’s livestream ended at that point.

Later, the Potter’s House Church posted a statement on the bishop’s official X account, stating that he was given medical assistance right away.

Many of you don’t realize that you’re looking at a miracle, and that he faced a life-threatening tragedy, he told the assembly after the incident.

He continued by saying that his doctor wants him to take it slow but that he is back now and that he had a full examination prior to his health emergency, during which he was told he was healthy.

In actuality, there are instances when events occur that are out of our control. “And in this spiritual warfare, things happen sometimes,” Jakes remarked. I don’t know if any of it is definitive, but I do know that the bigger power that exists within us and endures is greater.

Jakes said that, in spite of the terrible event, he is paying attention to his medical team and is taking a few weeks off to simply rest, recuperate, and think. Thankfully, however, Jakes reported that he is pain-free and feels fantastic.

In addition, Jakes shared a video of himself wheeling out of the hospital on Wednesday.

He posted on his Instagram and X accounts last week, saying, “I thank the Lord that I did not have a stroke.” I am in awe of my family and the amazing leadership team that surrounds me, even as I am still reinforced by His grace. We move forward as a team, unwavering in the task the Lord has given us.
