The Hershey Bears haven’t played at Giant Center on home ice in a long time.
The Bears will play Wilkes-Barre/Scranton at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza tonight, where Todd Nelson’s team has played some of its best hockey away from home.
First position In the Atlantic Division, Hershey (26-11-5, 57 points) sits five points ahead of Providence and Charlotte. The Bears defeated Belleville 4-1 in their most recent home game on January 17.
Hershey will play Bridgeport in the first of two games back at home on Friday night. At 7 p.m., both games start.
Let’s talk about that driving record now.
The Bears are 14-1-4 on the road with 32 points after going 1-0-2 on a road stretch last week against Belleville (two games) and Laval (one game).
The Bears are 7-1-2-0 in January, and Hershey has the longest point streak of the season, which is seven games.
In their most recent attempt, Nelson’s squad won 5-3 at Belleville on Saturday, earning two points. The Bears led 3-2 going into the third period after scoring three goals in the second, including two on power plays by defenseman Chase Priskie and forward Alex Limoges.
Mike Vecchione of Hershey scored the game-winning goal with 12:20 remaining in the third after the two clubs had traded goals early in the game.
Speaking last Saturday night, Nelson expressed his satisfaction with the Bears’ January efforts.
Nelson stated, “We’re headed in the right direction.”
We weren’t playing where we were completely bought in, bounces weren’t going our way, and things weren’t going our way at the beginning of the year before Christmas.
I believe that the team is now showing that everyone is participating and buying into each other.
NOTES: Hershey forward Ethen Frank, who is currently with the Washington Capitals, was replaced by Limoges, who had a three-point performance against Belleville on Saturday, on the 2025 AHL All-Star roster a few days ago.
