At 4:03 p.m. on Saturday, the National Weather Service released a forecast for Somerset County that called for heavy snow through 6 p.m.
“At 3:59 p.m., a nearly stationary band of moderate to briefly heavy snow was located between Laurel Mountain State Park and Central City,” according to the weather service.
Acosta, Ogletown, Tire Hill, Jennerstown, Hooversville, Indian Lake, Stoystown, Shanksville, Benson, New Baltimore, Seven Springs, Somerset, Windber, Friedens, Boswell, Davidsville, Central City, Paint, Jerome, Scalp Level, and others are among the places affected by the alert. The Pennsylvania Turnpike from mile markers 100 to 129 is included in this. Highway 30 from the Westmoreland county border east of Indian Lake is one example of this. Geistown to Somerset via Route 219.
“If you have to travel into or through areas of heavy snow, exercise extra caution,” the weather agency advises. Accidents could result from reduced visibility and perhaps slick roads.
