At 7:52 a.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued a weather notice for Luzerne County, predicting heavy snow through 8:15 a.m.

The weather service reported that “a band of heavy snow was near Mifflinville, or near Berwick moving east at 45 MPH” at 7:51 a.m.

Hazleton, Berwick, Nanticoke, West Hazleton, Freeland, Ashley, Bear Creek, Dorrance, Conyngham, and Nescopeck are among the places affected by the alert. The following highway exits are included in this: interstate 80 between 256 and 273. Interstate 476 close to 105; Pennsylvania Interstate 81 between 143 and 165A and B.

“If you have to travel into or through this band of heavy snow, exercise extra caution,” the weather service cautions. Accidents may result from abrupt changes in visibility and perhaps slick roads.
