Chris Brown, an award-winning musician and songwriter, has said that he is suing Warner Brothers, Ample LLC, and everyone who worked on the documentary Chris Brown: A History of Violence.
Brown disclosed his $500 million lawsuit on Instagram in a statement posted on January 21.
According to the lawsuit, the defendants put financial gain ahead of journalistic ethics when they released the documentary on October 27, 2024, disregarding Mr. Brown. Although Brown knew the information was being used, the complaint claims that the accusations were refuted in court.
The years of accusations against the singer are the main subject of the documentary. According to Brown, the movie presents a violent man who got away with it because of his position in the entertainment business. Brown has not been convicted of any crimes involving sex.
Citing that fact, Brown’s lawsuit alleges that the documentary deliberately harmed Mr. Brown’s reputation and disseminated misleading material to the public by sensationalizing discredited claims in order to increase viewing and revenue.
An account of violence from Jane Doe, who filed a sexual assault lawsuit against Brown in 2022, is also included in the program. According to the lawsuit, the two of them’s voice messages and texts demonstrate that their relationship and sexual conduct were consensual. She allegedly actively sought a relationship with him (Brown).
After he allegedly assaulted pop sensation Rihanna on the night of the 2009 Grammy Awards, Brown’s career suffered greatly. The singer’s career was damaged and years of legal issues began after pictures of the Barbados singer’s bruises went public.
In the lawsuit, Brown’s lawyer, Levi McCathern, stated that the goal of the litigation is to preserve the truth for both his client and actual victims of abuse.
McCathern stated that the goal of this litigation is to preserve the truth. The makers of this documentary willfully disregarded their ethical duties as journalists by promoting inaccurate and libelous information in spite of being presented with proof that refuted their assertions. Their acts damage the credibility of actual survivors of violence as well as Mr. Brown’s ten-year efforts to start over.
According to the lawsuit, Brown intends to give survivors of sexual abuse a portion of the settlement funds.
