Two Nittany Lions players were honored for their outstanding efforts this season prior to Penn State’s Big Ten Championship matchup with Oregon.

Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter and tight end Tyler Warren were chosen All-Americans on Saturday by the Reese’s Senior Bowl, one of the country’s premier NFL Draft scouting events each year. Later Saturday, Penn State’s title game in Indianapolis is set to begin at 8 p.m. on CBS.

The biggest individual story of Penn State’s season, Warren has created excitement worthy of winning the Heisman Trophy as both a Wildcat quarterback threat and the best pass catcher for the Lions. Almost all of the Penn State tight end records, including career receiving yards and touchdowns, have been surpassed by him.

The Virginia senior has ran 21 times for 189 yards and four touchdowns without losing a yard on the ground this season, in addition to his 81 receptions for 978 yards and six scores. He is 3-for-5 in the air with 35 yards and a score.Earlier this week, Warren was selected a first-team all-conference player and the Big Ten’s tight end of the year.

Carter switched to defensive end after two years as an outstanding linebacker. He took a few games to get used to his new position, but as a powerful pass rusher, he ended up winning the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year award this season.

Carter has 10 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss at the end of the regular season. The Philadelphia native has the third-highest number of tackles for loss in the country and the most in the Big Ten. This week, he was also voted the Defensive Lineman of the Year for the Big Ten.

A week of scouting exercises will precede the Senior Bowl game, which is set for February 1 in Mobile, Alabama. This season, a few athletes from Penn State will undoubtedly be invited.
