A man from Jefferson City has been charged after allegedly firing shots at a car during a heated argument. The incident occurred on Sunday, September 8, and has left the community shaken.
The man, Brandon D. Pouncil, is wanted in connection with multiple charges, including discharging a firearm and child endangerment.
According to the police and court documents, the altercation began around 1:30 p.m. when the victim went to an acquaintance’s apartment in Jefferson City.
The victim was speaking with the friend’s mother when Pouncil reportedly felt disrespected. The argument quickly escalated, with Pouncil allegedly threatening the victim by saying, “I’ll shoot you right now.”
The victim, sensing danger, tried to call the police. However, Pouncil allegedly knocked the phone out of the victim’s hand and kicked them in the shoulder when they bent down to pick it up.
A probable cause statement noted that one of Pouncil’s friends intervened, pushing him against the wall to give the victim a chance to leave the apartment.
As the victim hurried out and got into their car to drive away, Pouncil allegedly fired two shots at the vehicle. The victim’s 2-year-old child was inside the car during the shooting. Fortunately, neither the victim nor the child was injured, but the car sustained damage, with one bullet striking the front grill.
A witness inside the apartment told police that the argument started when the victim walked past Pouncil without greeting him, which Pouncil took as a sign of disrespect. This minor disagreement reportedly triggered the violent response.
Pouncil now faces a range of charges, including First-Degree Child Endangerment, Discharging a Firearm at a Motor Vehicle, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Second-Degree Assault, and Armed Criminal Action.
These charges carry serious consequences, and authorities are currently searching for Pouncil, who remains at large.
The Jefferson City Police Department (JCPD) is urging anyone with information about Pouncil’s whereabouts to come forward. This incident has sparked concern among residents about the dangers of unresolved conflicts escalating into violence.
Law enforcement officials have stressed the importance of de-escalation in heated situations. What began as a minor misunderstanding turned into a life-threatening encounter, endangering the victim and their child.
The JCPD continues to investigate the incident, and authorities are confident that Pouncil will be apprehended soon.
