A heartbreaking incident occurred in Aurora on Tuesday night when a house fire near East Quincy Avenue and South Reservoir Road led to the tragic death of a family’s dog. Aurora Fire Rescue responded to the scene around 5:30 p.m. after a concerned neighbor reported seeing smoke rising from the home.
Upon arrival, firefighters found thick smoke billowing from the front door, a sign that the fire had already spread inside.
After entering the house, they discovered the fire started in the kitchen. Fortunately, no one was home at the time, but firefighters found a dog near the kitchen who had suffered from smoke inhalation.
Despite the firefighters’ best efforts, including attempting CPR on the dog, they were unable to revive the beloved pet. However, there was a silver lining to the tragedy as they successfully rescued a cat from the home.
According to reports, the cat appeared to be unharmed by the fire.
Aurora Fire officials later released a statement confirming that the fire was accidental. Investigators on the scene believe the fire might have started due to an unintended kitchen accident.
In addition to the loss of their pet, three residents of the home were displaced by the fire. Fortunately, they are now receiving assistance from the American Red Cross, which is helping them with temporary shelter and support.
