In a startling display of aggressive driving, a dash camera recorded a dangerous road rage incident on C-470 in Jefferson County, Colorado, on Saturday afternoon.
The footage, taken around 4 p.m., shows two drivers swerving between lanes and abruptly braking, creating a hazardous situation for everyone on the road.
The dash cam owner, who chose to remain anonymous, described the incident as frightening. “I was driving to pick up my two little kids, and it really made me think about their safety,” the driver told KDVR.
“I hope these drivers see this video and realize the potential harm they caused. Their reckless behavior could have seriously injured themselves or other innocent people.”
Despite the dangerous situation, the two drivers involved sped away from the scene, leaving behind a trail of chaos. The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) noted that incidents like these often result from impatient drivers, especially in high-traffic areas like C-470.
Sgt. Patrick Rice of CSP explained, “Road rage commonly occurs in busy traffic situations, whether on small roads or freeways. C-470, along with other major routes like I-25 and I-70, is known for aggressive driving and speeding.”
He emphasized that road rage incidents are not uncommon in areas with heavy traffic, and drivers should be cautious.
How to Handle Road Rage Situations?
If you find yourself in a road rage situation, CSP recommends several key actions to ensure your safety:
- Stay Calm: Take a deep breath and try to remain composed.
- Avoid Engaging: Do not attempt to confront or chase the aggressive driver.
- Get Away Safely: Slow down or take an exit to distance yourself from the aggressive driver.
- Report the Incident: If possible, call 911 or the state patrol with details about the vehicle involved.
Sgt. Rice advised against trying to get in front of or confront the aggressive driver, as this can escalate the situation. Instead, focus on removing yourself from the conflict and providing law enforcement with as much information as you can.
The dash cam owner also reported that the road rage incident led to a rock being kicked up, causing damage to their windshield. They stressed the importance of having a dash camera, which can provide crucial evidence in the event of a road rage encounter.
