Pittsburgh –For the past eight weeks, Montravius Adams, a defensive tackle for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has been out due to a torn meniscus. Adams has been practicing for the past three weeks after having surgery for the injury. He has practiced at full capacity six times in a row in the last two weeks.
Given that meniscus problems often worsen the pain for explosive players like Adams, he acknowledges that he has better days than others. However, when the team calls on him, he will know he is close and prepared to play.
“I consider myself to be more of a jittery person. Therefore, the meniscus had an impact on it for me,” Adams stated. It helps you get out of those breaks like a shock absorber. I therefore had to pay close attention to it. I mean, I didn’t want to be outside and experience this feeling at all. Since that’s what I’m good at, I have to really pay attention to that. I perform well when we simply practice outside, and I do well the next day. However, I’m likely to act a touch strange the next day if we go inside.
Given that the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex’s indoor field is made of turf with concrete underneath, it seems to reason that Adams would sustain more injuries because there would be greater stress applied to his knee.
But for a seasoned player like Adams, missing eight weeks is not difficult, particularly when he has coaches like Karl Dunbar, Teryl Austin, and Mike Tomlin.
I believe that if you have a good trainer, you can take as much time as you need as long as you’re still exercising and taking care of your body. “You understand the football game,” Adams remarked.
Adams will return this week or the following week since he must be activated from injured reserve by December 18. Given Larry Ogunjobi’s groin injury, it appears that Adams might play this week.
