After a poor performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, wide receiver Kadarius Toney was cut by the Cleveland Browns. Toney was flagged for a taunting penalty, which put the Browns behind when they would have had excellent field position, in addition to having an unsightly fumble of a punt that the Steelers recovered at the end of the game.
Toney was fired from the squad as a result of all of those factors. The Browns had worked him into packages and as a returner after he was just promoted from the practice squad. That appears to have been dropped in light of Toney’s behavior.
From the beginning, Toney’s career has been difficult. He was moved after just one season with the New York Giants, who selected him in the first round out of Florida. Even after acquiring him, the Kansas City Chiefs were unable to get much out of Toney, who never saw his abilities transfer from college to the NFL.
The 25-year-old wide receiver has only caught 82 passes for 762 yards thus far in his career, and the Browns cut him, so there’s no assurance he will get another opportunity.
