There seems to be a problem with Penn State supporters’ College Football Playoff tickets.
Since season tickets went on sale Monday, a few students and season ticket holders have expressed on social media that they were unable to cash in on their prior Beaver Stadium seat reservations.
Before the Nittany Lions’ home game was finalized in November, Penn State emailed season ticket holders and students to let them make reservations in advance.
Students had to purchase a $28 ticket and enter a lottery, much like Penn State does during the regular season. Regular seats could be reserved by season ticket holders for a variety of prices.
Fans have claimed that their ticket requests were turned down or that they never got an email confirming their first request, even though Penn State is officially hosting SMU on December 21. According to PennLive, at least one student did not initially receive tickets but did so after contacting Ticketmaster.
Some Beaver Stadium areas that were previously only accessible to students are now open to the general public when trying to buy tickets for the game on Ticketmaster. For instance, seats in section SJ range in price from $160 to $337.
All student ticket allocations, however, were fulfilled, according to a statement from Penn State.
A spokeswoman stated that the CFP controls the ticket quantity and pricing. No student requests were denied before the deadline of Friday, November 29. All students who submitted ticket requests by that date were granted tickets.
PennLive has yet to receive a response from Penn State regarding whether the student section, which normally accommodates about 21,000 people, has been scaled back for the playoff game.
PennLive was informed by a CFP ticketing agent on the phone Tuesday that inquiries about the ticket reservation procedure should be sent to Penn State. The same thing was stated by a Ticketmaster agent, who also mentioned that the institution would need to be contacted over the quantity of student tickets sold.
On December 21, the sixth-seeded Nittany Lions will play the eleventh-seeded Mustangs at noon on TNT.
