Pittsburgh –Mike Tomlin listened to everyone’s concerns regarding his wide receiver room. He wanted his players to come up and make some plays Sunday against the Cleveland Browns without George Pickenson. Van Jefferson, Mike Williams, and Scotty Miller all rang the bell.

Tomlin responded to inquiries from the media on the addition of a wide receiver during the whole summer. It’s safe to assume that Tomlin still has the highest level of faith in the rest of his squad, even though the club did that when they traded for Williams.

In the news conference following the team’s victory over the Browns, he supported his wide outs.

You guys wanted to know why we didn’t rank second in team development. When we threw the ball to create plays, the guys made plays. The pack itself is its strength. We have a number of individuals who want to be the reason we’re successful, and I believe they consistently demonstrate that when given the chance, whether it’s Scotty Miller, Mike Williams, Calvin Austin III, or Van Jefferson. We have faith in our team. I realize I’ve told you guys that a lot. “Perhaps you will begin to believe me,” Tomlin said.

When it comes to criticism of a position group, that is the most severe response a coach can offer the media. Even though none of those players had more than 40 yards, the Steelers needed them to make one or two plays, and they did just that.

Miller’s spectacular catch down the sideline helped seal the victory. Williams made a stunning spinning grab that placed the Steelers in a good position to score a touchdown. For the touchdown, Jefferson made a catch at his shoes.

The wide receivers the Steelers currently have are making plays when called upon, but they will need to add someone to that area next season since they are far from ideal.
