Geroge Pickens, a wide receiver with the Pittsburgh Steelers, received a $20,462 punishment for his two infractions of unsportsmanlike conduct against the Cincinnati Bengals. Pickens stated on Friday that he was unsure of what he needed to do in order for those plays to not be considered penalties because he was following the actions of other wide receivers.

“I’m playing plays out here. celebrating in the same way as all the other recipients. Thus, I’m not certain,” Pickens remarked.

Following the initial play, Pickens dropped the ball straight onto Bengals defender Germaine Pratt. When the foul was called, Pickens appeared to be inconsolable.

After making a huge reception down the sideline on the second play, Pickens went to the center of the field and fired a mock gun toward the crowd. The NFL has issued an order to strictly enforce what they consider to be aggressive gestures during games, which includes gun-wielding celebrations.

Pickens has only received three penalty calls all season in spite of this. Prior to Sunday’s game, he is involved in what appears to be a heated argument with Browns cornerback Greg Newsome. Pickens’ hamstring ailment makes him doubtful to play.
