YORK — Although Colton Cornwell is hardly a newcomer to the Mid-Penn Conference, the junior guard showed his value tonight when it counted most by playing brilliantly in a hostile environment.
That’s because Chambersburg defeated York Suburban 56-51 in the YS Classic on Friday, led by the 6-foot-4 shooter, who finished with a career-high 22 points, including five 3-pointers.

Cornwell had the hot hand in the first quarter, scoring 12 points in the opening quarter to put the Trojans ahead 21-9.
When York commits Kai Stryhn, Kane Stryhn, and Silas Leonard intervened to reduce the Chambersburg advantage to 31-28 going into halftime, Suburban finally woke up but continued with its game strategy.
With Leonard, Kai Stryhn, and Brayden Egger, Suburban dominated the third quarter. However, as the Trojans maintained their lead at 45–40, Landon Buhrman went to a man among boys with nine points.
I got lost in the first half. Buhrman stated. In the second half, I started attacking and getting into people on defense; I simply needed to work on it.
The Stryhn brothers and Egger hung tough during the back-and-forth fourth quarter, but the Trojans held together and were sealed by the outstanding play of Cornwell, Josh Rudy, and Ohio commit JJ Kelly.

Cornwell finished with six rebounds and 22 points, including five 3-pointers.
Kelly ended with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Buhrman finished with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Both players achieved double-doubles.
Leonard finished with 13 points, Kane Stryhn added 12, and Kai Stryhn lead Suburban with 16 points, including three 3-pointers.

Suburban loses 2-1 and faces Trinity tomorrow, but Chambersburg will bounce back in less than a day when it plays York High.
