UPDATE: Police say a woman accused of killing a Harrisburg man knocked on his home while nude and claimed to have been a collision victim.
Prosecutors tell PennLive that a 66-year-old man was killed in a random act of violence inside his Harrisburg home on Wednesday night.
Police and the Dauphin County coroner’s office say that at approximately 5 p.m., Tajyeiah Greer, 29, fatally stabbed Michael Thompson inside his house on the 2700 block of North Sixth Street in uptown Harrisburg.
According to Chief Deputy District Attorney Steve Zawisky, who spoke to PennLive, the death seemed to be a random attack, but the reason is still being investigated. He claimed that Greer repeatedly stabbed Thompson with horticulture equipment designed for pruning bushes or tree limbs.
According to Harrisburg police, they were summoned to the intersection of North Sixth and Wiconisco streets at approximately 5:00 p.m. regarding a woman who was reportedly running through the streets covered in blood.
Thompson was quickly located and declared dead at the scene due to multiple body stab wounds. The coroner’s office declared his death to be a homicide.
As of 9 p.m. Wednesday, police tape was still used to block off many homes and at least one car in the vicinity. As of Thursday morning, the area is totally open again.
Court data available online demonstrate Due to the seriousness of the charges against her, Greer was denied bail and charged on a single count of murder Thursday morning. Dauphin County Prison is where she is being detained.
On December 18, a preliminary hearing will be held before Magisterial District Judge J. Matthew Pianka.
Harrisburg has seen 21 homicides in 2024, up from 13 at this time last year.
