Pittsburgh –Minkah Fitzpatrick, the safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers, hasn’t forced a turnover since 2022. The Steelers have remained optimistic that Fitzpatrick’s splash plays will materialize, but they haven’t done so yet, despite the fact that he is being paid well to be the team’s roaming free safety.
Furthermore, over the past three weeks, Fitzpatrick has given up a couple more huge plays than normal. How is the star safety for the squad doing?
Teryl Austin, the defensive coordinator, responded to Fitzpatrick’s detractors this season by saying that most people are unaware of how much he contributes to the Steelers’ back end defense.
He helps us so much. I am aware that everyone like splash and occasionally wants it. However, many of his actions provide us the chance to line up, execute another play, and stop individuals, which is a huge advantage in terms of preventing people from entering the end zone and performing various actions. We adore the splash, but in the back, he truly improves everyone. There won’t be many throws down the middle, but there will be some. Because it’s the NFL, certain things may leak, but he does a fantastic job. This year, he’s run a few things down and given us a chance to keep them out of the end zone,” Austin remarked.
Fitzpatrick himself has been irritated by the dearth of splash plays. He also acknowledged that he has occasionally been burned by pushing himself a little bit in an attempt to create some plays. Although the Steelers are aware of Fitzpatrick’s ability to be a ballhawk, players like Donte Jackson are receiving those plays instead.
Fitzpatrick may like for the play to happen sooner rather than later in order to relieve some of his stress. In any case, the Steelers disagree with the outside assessment that Fitzpatrick has had difficulties.
