With close victories over Wyomissing (30-27 OT) in the District 3 championship game and District 7 champion Thomas Jefferson (20-16) in the semifinals, Lampeter-Strasburg enters Thursday’s championship game with a perfect 14-0 record. In the PIAA semifinals at Mansion Park in Altoona, the Pioneers defeated the Jaguars 16-3 at the half thanks to a late field goal by Peter Fiorello with 9:48 remaining in the fourth quarter and a touchdown run and pass by quarterback Caileb Howse in the third quarter.
Last weekend, Lampeter-Strasburg defeated Southern Lehigh, the District 11 champion, 55-26, despite facing a formidable Bonner Prendergast team that ran for 422 yards and seven touchdowns. On their path to Thursday’s 4A championship game, the Friars also easily defeated Pope John Paul II (35–15) and West Philadelphia (50–16).
