Somebody out there bought a lottery ticket for millions of dollars.

They haven’t yet claimed it either. And since it expires in a few days, they had better do it quickly.

According to the Los Angeles Times, last year this unidentified, unaware multimillionaire bought the Mega Millions ticket at a Chevron gas station in Encino, California.

The Times article continues by explaining how the $197.7 million in wins from the ticket came to be. And before the ticket expires, they have till this Saturday to claim that moolah.

Carolyn Becker, a spokeswoman for the California Lottery, said on Wednesday that it would be wonderful to see the legitimate winner receive their winnings.

ABC 7 claims that this ticket is one of two that won the lottery. In order to claim their award, the other winner has already come forward.

According to the Times, there is a small silver lining in the event that the owner of the unsubmitted ticket misses the Saturday deadline: A portion of the proceeds will instead be donated to Californian schools.

We’ve averaged between $40 million and $50 million annually [in] unclaimed [tickets] over the last five to ten years, it’s safe to say,” Becker added.

Make sure to check all of your pockets if you, the reader, were in Encino last year and recall making a stop at a petrol station.
