Mechanicsburg’s Cumberland Valley High School will host the 2024 PIAA Football Championship games, beginning early Thursday with a Class A matchup between the Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders and Port Allegany Gators.

Bishop Guilfoyle, the District 6 champion, scored a touchdown on the first possession of last week’s 21-6 playoff victory over Muncy, the District 4 champion, at Lock Haven University. Guilfoyle put a stop to the Indians’ offense and pitched a second-half shutout after leading 21-0 in the second quarter and 21-6 at the half. The Marauders also defeated Northern Cambria (42-18) in the District 6 title game and Westinghouse (61-6), the District 8 champion, in the quarterfinals.
With yet another strong offensive performance, Port Allegany easily defeated Fort Cherry, the WPIAL champion, 46–8, in the semifinals. With a tremendous effort by running back Aiden Bliss, who rumbled to 294 yards and five touchdowns on 35 runs, the Gators prevailed in a mercy rule game. Port Allegany has averaged 48.7 points per game in victories over Fort Cherry and Wilmington (38–20) in the PIAA playoffs and Redbank Valley (62-28) in the District 9 final.
