At 5:48 a.m. on Thursday, the National Weather Service issued an updated weather notice for snow through 7 a.m. in Sullivan, Union, Snyder, Montour, Northumberland, Columbia, and Northern Lycoming counties.

“At 5:47 a.m., an area of snow was along a line extending from near Canton to near Mifflinburg and moving east at 45 MPH,” the weather service reported.

Williamsport, Berkeley, Sunbury, Shamokin, Milton, Mount Carmel, Lewisburg, Selinsgrove, Danville, Montoursville, Northumberland, Mifflinburg, Kulpmont, Ashland, Winfield, Muncy, Watsontown, Elysburg, and Fairview-Ferndale are among the places affected by the alert. Specifically, from mile marks 195 to 247 on Interstate 80, and from mile markers 1 to 29 on Interstate 180, this encompasses the region between the Jersey Shore and Nescopek exits.

“In winter weather conditions, conditions can rapidly deteriorate,” the weather service continues. Be ready for roads covered with ice or snow. When commuting early in the morning, slow down and give yourself more time to get there.
