Kamden Laudenslager said on Wednesday that he approached high school in a different way, but he was also speaking with PennLive because that route paid off well.
On National Signing Day, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound pass rusher signed a national letter of intent with North Carolina and is on his way to Chapel Hill.
He played for the McDonogh School in Owings Mill, Maryland, as all the papers will mention. Although that is true, few will mention that he still resides in central Pennsylvania and is originally from the Harrisburg area.
How did that occur?
According to Laudenslager, the coaches at McDonogh, a boarding school, saw a highlight reel he had posted while he was in the eighth grade. He claimed that they gave him a chance to play there and that, even as a freshman, he was already receiving college offers.

Once more, it was a different experience than most people have, but Laudenslager took a minute on Wednesday to reflect on the events that transpired and attempt to put them in perspective.
He stated, “It’s really crazy to see how things have played out over the past four years.” It was the best I could have written. I couldn’t have summed up my choice to attend McDonogh, play football there, and the faith they placed in me more perfectly.
Everything has come together flawlessly.
For the most part, everything went according to plan. As North Carolina moved on from longtime coach Mack Brown, there was some apprehension during the last several weeks. Naturally, Brown was instrumental in persuading Laudenslager that the Tar Heels were the team for him.
According to Laudenslager, there was undoubtedly some extra stress near the end, so near to signing day. Coach Brown played a significant role in my commitment process, but ultimately, I made a commitment to the institution, squad, and school, and I have little doubt that they will soon appoint someone excellent.
Laudenslager claimed that all he needed to hear to persuade him to follow through was the school’s assurance to its commits that their offer was still open and that they were still wanted.
He remarked, “I love the Carolinas, and the atmosphere there is great as a school.” In addition to the lovely weather, I’ve always like Carolina sports.
And he formally announced it on Wednesday. He will get the opportunity to participate in what was before just a dream.
“To be honest, everything went perfectly today,” he stated. Everything went just the way I wanted it to.
