After lead vocalist John Rzeznik was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia, the Goo Goo Dolls, who were at the top of the charts, announced that they would have to postpone a number of their scheduled performances.

The band announced on X that it had to postpone three of its scheduled performances in South Africa this week.

The message said, “We’re devastated to have to postpone our shows in South Africa.” We are very grateful for this country, and we couldn’t wait to make more memories with you. Regretfully, my doctor has recommended rest and recuperation. We appreciate your patience and promise to make the wait worthwhile when we get back in March 2025.

There was a video of Rzeznik in his hospital bed with the message.

He says in the video, “I’m really sorry I can’t be there, but I ended up seeing a doctor and they checked me into the hospital because I have pneumonia.” For a day or two, I’m stranded here. However, we’re trying to return as quickly as possible. I sincerely apologize that we were unable to accomplish this. I’m sorry this occurred.

March 25 in Cape Town, March 27 in Durban, and March 29 in Pretoria are the new dates.

For the rescheduled dates, all tickets remain valid. Information on how to verify their presence or request a refund will be sent to ticket holders.

According to Billboard, the group’s next performance is scheduled for December 14 at the Naples, Florida Live Fest 2024.

Songs like Iris, Name, and Slide were among the Goo Goo Dolls’ several top-40 hits in the 1990s and early 2000s. They have received four Grammy Award nominations and have sold 15 million records worldwide.
