Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer suggested Arthur Smith, the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers, as a possible head coach candidate for the vacant Chicago Bears position. Although there were many applicants, Glazer and others think Smith will be given more head coaching opportunities this offseason, and the Bears with Caleb Williams could be one of them.
According to the Athletic’s Dianna Russini, late last week, Smith’s work with Russell Wilson and this Steelers offense sparked interest in him throughout the league. Glazer may be putting Smith’s hat in the ring for that reason.
Additionally, Glazer thinks the Bears will prefer an offensive head coach who can collaborate with the quarterback. Smith may be the person the Bears need in the building to help Williams, who has shown promise in his debut campaign.
When North Carolina showed interest in Smith, he declined the position of head coach. Smith would wait to see if an NFL position like Chicago calls, even if that is his alma mater. He does not want to leave Pittsburgh for any head coaching position.
