Springfield On Wednesday, the ILA winter storm is expected to bring dangerous travel conditions to Illinois, including snow, freezing rain, and sleet. Early on Wednesday morning, the storm is expected to start and continue throughout the evening.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln predicts that snow accumulations, mostly north of Interstate 72, will be between 2 and 6 inches. South of I-70, where ice accumulation might reach 0.2 inches, a combination of freezing rain and sleet is most likely.

The evening commute may be impacted by the projected greatest snowfall, which is expected to occur between noon and six o’clock. In places where freezing rain reaches 0.25 inches, ice buildup could result in falling limbs and power outages.

Reduced visibility and slick roads are to be expected. Authorities advise locals to drive very carefully and to limit their travel if at all feasible.

Throughout the storm, temperatures will stay close to freezing, raising the possibility of slippery conditions overnight. Road crews are getting ready to treat bridges and key roadways.

Locals should keep an eye on weather reports and be ready for any delays. People in impacted areas should prepare emergency supplies and secure any unsecured outdoor items.
