The Eagles have a number of trophies on exhibit at the NovaCare Complex, including a Vince Lombardi Trophy after their victory against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII and various George S. Halas trophies for winning the NFC. When the Eagles play the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, another world championship trophy will be on a family’s couch.

Reporter Matt Breen of the Philadelphia Inquirer said that the Edelstein family has the 1960 world championship trophy that the Eagles won at Franklin Field after defeating the Green Bay Packers. After traveling from Philadelphia to Florida, the trophy was stored in a closet. The trophy’s caretakers, Matt and his 15-year-old son Liam Edelstein, are playing a significant role. Before the 2017 season began, the year the Eagles won the Super Bowl, Breen said the two managed to pack the trophy in a duffel bag and get it back to the Philadelphia region.

Matt Edelstein told Breen, “We joke around the family that we’re the reason the Eagles have been successful.”

According to Liam, he has no plans to sell it with his family. They keep it on the team’s couch instead, viewing it as a lucky charm.

Liam told Breen that it’s somewhat absurd to rub it on fourth down or third down, see them get a stop, and then say, “That’s because we just rubbed the trophy.”
