An arrest and charges were brought against a Temple University student who was caught on campus pretending to be an ICE agent.
According to reports from 6ABC, CBS News, and People, 22-year-old Aidan Steigelmann has been accused with impersonating a state servant.
In a statement, Temple University authorities announced that Steigelmann—whom they did not name—is temporarily suspended.
According to the statement, it is illegal to impersonate law authorities. Members of the Temple community will not be subjected to this conduct or harassment.
At around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Steigelmann and another individual posed as ICE officials, according to the university and police. A third person recorded their behavior as both wore shirts that read “Police” and “ICE.”
When they tried to enter the Johnson and Hardwick resident hall, a security guard turned them away and called the police.
In a Jaguar SUV, the three of them departed the scene. Shortly after, police received another allegation of three individuals posing as ICE officers and responded to an Insomnia Cookies in the 1300 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue.
Around 10 p.m., investigators located the car in Philadelphia’s 1700 block of North 12th Street, and Steigelmann was taken into custody.
The other two suspects are still wanted, according to the police. Temple Police is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call 215-204-1234 or send an email to [email protected].
