After the Super Bowl, the Pittsburgh Steelers will begin making offseason decisions as soon as possible, and it seems that cutting Cordarrelle Patterson is one of those inevitable decisions.
Patterson signed a two-year contract with consideration for the new kickoff regulations. He is among the greatest kick-returners ever. Despite being far above 30, Patterson was still a successful kick returner.
That Patterson, however, was not acquired by the Steelers. After suffering a high ankle sprain that cost him four games, Patterson’s season took a serious turn for the worst. In terms of yards per kick return, he finished bottom in the NFL. The squad was among the worst at kickoffs overall, in addition to not getting the Patterson they were hoping for.
Although he occasionally tried his hand as running back, the majority of the funds that were allocated to Patterson were used for that. In any case, it appears that bringing in a fresh player would be the best course of action because the Steelers had a terrible time getting anything going on these kickoffs.
