ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — The airport and law enforcement have paused all takeoffs and landings at Ronald Reagan National Airport after an aircraft went down near the airport on Wednesday night.
Numerous helicopters were hovering above the area of the incident in the Potomac River, including those from the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, the U.S. Park Police, and the U.S. military. Fireboats were on the site, according to D.C. Fire and EMS on X.
Following an airplane crash, Washington, D.C. police posted on the social media site X that several agencies are searching and rescuing people in the Potomac River.
Two sets of lights that appear to unite in a fireball are seen on video from an observation camera at the nearby Kennedy Center.
According to the airport, there was an aircraft incident on the airstrip and emergency workers were responding.
