When the Philadelphia Flyers play the Devils on Wednesday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, they have a difficult challenge ahead of them.

TNT, TruTV, and Max will broadcast the game, which starts at 7 p.m. ET. It will also be live streamed on DirecTV Stream (FREE trial and discount) and Sling TV (introductory discount).

With a 6-3-1 record over the past ten games, Philadelphia (23-22-6, in the Metropolitan Division) sits three points outside of a postseason berth.

The Flyers’ primary problem this season has been consistency; they have had periods of strong play followed by a run of games in which they lose badly, as was the case against the Rangers on January 23.

They defeated the Devils 4-2 at home on Monday night thanks to goals from Garnet Hathaway, Joel Farabee, and Bobby Brink.

The Flyers won the first game of a home-and-home set thanks to goals and assists from Scott Laughton, ending a two-game losing run. In Philadelphia’s fourth consecutive home victory, Samuel Ersson stopped 31 shots, Travis Konecny and Rasmus Ristolainen each contributed two assists.

Their goal differential this season is minus-19, despite their winning record.

Garnet Hathaway has four goals and one assist in the last ten games, while Travis Konecny has 21 goals and 37 assists for the Flyers.

Of the three goalies on the club, Ersson has been the most reliable, recording a 15-8-0–2 record in 25 games. He has a 2.77 goals-against average.

With 62 points, 10 more than the Flyers, New Jersey (28-18-6, in the Metropolitan Division) is in third place. In their last ten games, the Devils have a 4-3-3 record.

To help the Devils end a four-game losing streak, Nico Hischier scored and assisted twice, Dougie Hamilton scored and assisted, Stefan Noesen also scored, and Timo Meier contributed two assists. Jake Allen stopped all 16 shots he faced, and Jacob Markstrom recorded six saves before leaving early in the second period due to a collision.

The organization said on Friday that Markstrom will miss four to six weeks due to a damaged MCL in his knee as a result of that accident.

With 58 points, Jac Hughes leads the Devils, followed by Jesper Bratt with 56. With 24 goals, Hischier leads New Jersey in goal scoring.

After tonight, New Jersey will play five of its next seven games away from home.
