For the 2018 UFL season, former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Mark Gilbert is joining the Memphis Showboats. Gilbert performed well during training camp and earned a spot on the practice squad after being signed by the Steeers for the 2021 offseason. The Detroit Lions signed him from their practice squad, but he was cut before the 2022 season, therefore he would subsequently leave the team.

Gilbert was then brought back to Pittsburgh by the Steelers, where he played a large portion of the 2022 campaign before being cut again. After playing with the USFL’s Pittsburgh Maulers, he signed with the Miami Dolphins but was cut from the team’s roster.

Gilbert has subsequently participated in the UFL and is attempting to return to the NFL. Being Darrelle Revis’ cousin, he has football ancestry, and Gilbert has benefited from his guidance. However, after struggling in the NFL in 2023, he needs to have another successful season to receive a chance.
