Charles Chuck Connor, a former Pittsburgh Steelers scout, passed away on January 20 at the age of 87, according to an obituary published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette by his family. Connor died in a calm manner.
Connor began his NFL career as a BLESTO scout in the 1960s, helping to construct the Steel Curtain in its early stages when the Steelers acquired future players from those teams, such as Mean Joe Greene.
Connor, a native of McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, spent more than 40 years in the NFL. Prior to becoming a coach at Pittsburgh’s Montour High School, he began his playing career at the University of Cincinnati.
Before joining the illustrious Miami Dolphins head coach Dan Marino, he would enter the NFL as a scout for the Steelers and contribute to the creation of two Super Bowl-winning teams.
Connor eventually became the Director of Player Personnel for the Atlanta Falcons, who won a Super Bowl in 1999. Connor contributed to that team’s development.
One of the many iconic front-office staff members who helped launch the Steelers’ club in the 1960s and enjoyed great success around the league is Connor.
