For the first time in his NFL career, guard Isaac Seumalois of the Pittsburgh Steelers is going to the Pro Bowl. After the Kansas City Chiefs advanced to the Super Bowl, guard Trey Smith would have to sit out, thus Seumalo, a Pro Bowl alternate, participated in 13 games for the team this season.
Due to a pectoral injury sustained during a preseason session, he missed the first four games of the season. Seumalo left the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2023 offseason to sign a three-year, $24 million contract with the Steelers.
It was a long time coming for Seumalo, who is 31 years old and was picked out of Oregon State in 2015. With the Eagles, he rose from backup to starting guard and never relinquished his position once he was in the starting lineup.
Seumalo’s decision to walk to free agency now benefits the Steelers, and he has established himself as the seasoned leader of a youthful team in need of stability.
