Penn State finished the weekend with a 35-3 dual victory and nine consecutive individual triumphs after traveling to play No. 14 Rutgers. Prior to the Lions’ nine consecutive and technical fall victories against No. 4 Shayne Van Ness at 149 pounds, No. 1 Mitchell Mesenbrink at 165, No. 1 Carter Starocci at 184, and No. 4 Josh Barr at 197, sixth-ranked freshman Luke Lilledahl lost 4-1 to No. 19 Dean Peterson at 125 pounds. Barr scored all 22 points in the third period of a 22-6 triumph over No. 16 John Poznanski, which was possibly the night’s high point.
Iowa enters Friday’s game in Happy Valley with the same 9-0 record after defeating No. 4 Ohio State 24–13. The Hawkeyes defeated a strong Buckeyes squad 5–4 thanks to a victory by young heavyweight Ben Kueter over returning All-American Nick Feldman.
