Maine’s Scarborough (AP) Residents of states hundreds of miles away were startled by Monday’s 3.8-magnitude earthquake that shook homes in northern New England and was located close to the Maine coast.

Approximately six miles (10 kilometers) southeast of York Harbor in southern Maine, the earthquake struck Monday at around 10:22 a.m., according to the US Geological Survey. According to the survey, it was recorded at a depth of roughly eight miles (13 kilometers).

Every New England state was affected by the earthquake, according to officials, and even people as far away as Pennsylvania reported feeling shaky. The unexpected earthquake disrupted a bright winter morning in southern Maine, causing many residents to report feeling buildings and houses tremble.

According to the survey’s website, although earthquakes in the central and eastern United States are less common than those in the western states, they are usually felt over a considerably larger range. According to the survey, New England typically experiences two little earthquakes annually.

According to the survey’s website, since colonial times, people in New England and its geological extension southward via Long Island have experienced minor earthquakes and been harmed by sporadic, larger ones.

Residents of New Hampshire and Maine were despatched to inspect any potential damage after the earthquake. Most of the time, businesses and locals expressed uncertainty about what had transpired. Many people posted accounts on social media about how, at first glance, they thought there had been an explosion or a nearby auto accident.

Terri Cooper, the superintendent of schools in Kennebunk, sent an email to parents reassuring them that everything appeared to be OK and that operations personnel was searching the schools for any damage.
