The city of PhiladelphiaThis season, the Eagles and Washington Commanders have experienced their fair share of conflicts and animosity. After Commanders cornerback Marshon Lattimore was flagged for defensive pass interference in the end zone while covering wide receiver DeVonta Smithon on the previous play, the Eagles formed up in the Brotherly Shove formation with 1:45 left in the quarter.
Lattimore and Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown got into a brawl after Brown kept blocking Lattimore during the play, which ended with quarterback Jalen Hurts scoring a 1-yard touchdown. Lattimore lost his helmet in the altercation. Officials and players broke up the altercation after the two kept jawing at one another. Lattimore received his first penalty of the game for needless roughness, which was the only penalty on the play.

The score was 20–12 after the Eagles failed to convert a two-point attempt using the Brotherly Shove formation once more.
Tensions were particularly high during the two teams’ clash in Week 16. Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was sent off after being reprimanded twice for taunting. According to many players who spoke to NJ Advance Media this week, there was a focus on preventing trash language because they thought the Commanders may attempt to incite penalties and set up scenarios where players, like Gardner-Johnson, might be ejected.
The Commanders might become more and more irritated if the Eagles keep extending their lead, and anything like what happened with Lattimore might occur once more.
