Sinner, who lost two sets in six matches to get to this point, defeated No. 21 Ben Shelton in straight sets (7-6, 6-2, 6-2) in the semifinals to easily advance to his second consecutive Aussie Open final. Sinner, who won eight tournaments last season, has taken the top spot in the ATP rankings and is currently aiming for his third Grand Slam victory.
To advance to the final and set himself up for his first Grand Slam, Zverev defeated Novak Djokovic, the all-time Grand Slam tennis tournament champion, in the semifinals. He is making his third Grand Slam appearance and his first-ever appearance at the Australian Open finals.
