Newport wrestling has consistently shown itself to be a strong program, sending at least a few wrestlers to the postseason each year.

The Buffaloes placed fifth as a team in sectionals and 13-5 overall the previous season.

Following an outstanding season the previous year, Roman Polcha will return for his senior year. Polcha finished third at sectionals, fifth at districts, and eighth at regionals, with an overall record of 36-12.

Additionally, Newport will need to replace some voids following the graduation of Mason Messick and Travis Lilly.

Although they weren’t always in the starting lineup, wrestlers like Marek Polcha, Kaj Miller, and Aiden Crockett might get more mat time this season after accumulating some varsity experience the previous year.

At the moment, Newport has a skilled squad with a roster of 24 players.

For the current being, the Buffaloes have seven freshmen, five juniors, five sophomores, and seven seniors.

A dual meet versus Camp Hill will kick off the season on December 3, and on December 4, the Perry County tournament will take place at West Perry.

On December 11, Newport will play Line Mountain to begin league play.

On December 13 and 14, the Carlisle Classic will take place, and on December 18, Juniata will play.

Before taking a hiatus until after the new year, Newport will host the yearly holiday tournament on December 28.

Before returning to dual action on the road against Bermudian Springs on January 4, Newport will make the trip to the Juniata pooled duals.
