Both Michigan and Purdue, who are currently one game behind Michigan State in the Big Ten rankings, are vying for the top spot. With two decisive road victories over then-No. 11 Wisconsin (67–64) and No. 22 UCLA (94–75), the Wolverines are 6-1 in conference play. They recently defeated Northwestern (80–76) after losing a five-game winning streak to Minnesota (84–81).
The Boilermakers lost to Ohio State (73-70) at home last time out, ending a seven-game winning streak that included a trip victory over No. 14 Oregon (65-58) in their previous game. This was just another example of the Big Ten Conference schedule’s persistent difficulties. With victories against then-No. 2 Alabama and No. 23 Ole Miss, as well as four games against top SEC teams in its non-conference slate, Purdue is battle-tested.
