This hiring cycle, three former Pittsburgh Steelers might be in line for a coordinator position. Center Hank Fraley, wide receivers coach Scottie Montgomery, and former wide receiver Antwaan Randle-El appear to be strong contenders for the Lions position.
Randle-El was a longtime wide receiver who threw a touchdown ball to Hines Ward on a reverse during their Super Bowl XL triumph. After leaving to go to Washington in 2010, he rejoined the Steelers, and following their loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl, he retired.
Fraley, an undrafted free agent signed by the organization in 2000, was a graduate of Robert Morris. Despite missing out on the team, he had a successful career with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he stayed until 2006. Additionally, he has interviewed for the offensive coordinator position with the Seattle Seahawks.
On the Mike Tomlin tree, Montgomery would be the first real branch. From 2010 to 2012, he served as the team’s wide receiver coach. After that, he went to college and eventually made his way back to the NFL, where he is today.
