On Thursday night at Madison Square Garden, two teams that are not in the running for playoff places will square off.

At 4:34 in overtime, Rasmus Ristolainen poked a loose puck narrowly across the goal line. Ristolainen had an easy tap-in after Detroit defenseman Moritz Seider attempted to remove the puck from in front of the goal but instead pinned it against the post.

Samuel Ersson recorded 27 saves and Joel Farabee scored for the Flyers.

With 54 points, Travis Konecny leads the Flyers, followed by Owen Tippett (29), Matvei Michkov (34), and Konecny.

With 24 starts, a 14-7-0-2 record, and a 2.70 goals-against average, Samuel Ersson has been the go-to goalie overall.

In their most recent game, New York (23-20-4, in the Metropolitan Division) defeated Ottawa 5-0 on Tuesday night.

Twenty saves were made by Igor Shesterkin. It was his 18th career shutout and his third this season.

The Rangers, who are 7-1-3 since January 2 and have won three in a row at home, also had goals from Arthur Kaliyev, Matt Rempe, Artemi Panarin, and Will Cuylle in addition to Alexis Lafreniere’s goal and assist.

With 20 goals and 49 points, Panarin leads the Rangers, while Fox leads the group in assists with 36.

Sherterkin is 16-15-0-2 with a 2.78 goals-against average and has received the majority of the starts (33 in goal).

This season’s second meeting between these teams will take place on Thursday. In the last meeting, the Flyers prevailed 3-1. With two goals, Travis Konecny led the Flyers.
