According to several sources, former Pittsburgh Steelers running back James Conner has agreed to a new two-year, $19 million contract agreement with the Arizona Cardinals. After leaving the Steelers in 2021, Conner joined the Cardinals and has since thrived.
Injuries, not performance, were Conner’s problem in Pittsburgh. He has played well for Arizona and has escaped serious injuries. A trip to the Pro Bowl is part of that.
He is still a mainstay in the backfield for the Cardinals, having accumulated over 5000 running yards. Conner’s career scrimmage total is close to 8,000 yards.
After All-Pro running back Le Veon Bell held out and chose to join the New York Jets, Conner, who was selected by the Steelers in the third round out of Pitt in the 2017 NFL Draft, replaced Bell. Conner continued to struggle with injuries despite his strong play and rise to the position of primary back for the Steelers.
The Steelers let Conner depart after selecting Najee Harris in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but Conner has since shown them that they were mistaken and is having a career comeback with the Cardinals.
