The 2024 Olympic men’s singles gold medal match saw Djokovic defeat Alcaraz in straight sets (7-6, 7-6), giving her a 4-3 lifetime record versus the Spaniard. Alcaraz won their first meeting (6-7, 7-5, 7-6) at the ATP Masters 1000 Madrid in 2022 and defeated Djokovic in the Wimbledon final in 2023 and 2024. Their encounter on Monday will be their first-ever meeting at the Australian Open, where Djokovic has won nine of his 24 Grand Slam event titles.
Alcaraz defeated No. 15 Jack Draper (7-5, 6-1, retired) to go to the quarterfinals, and Djokovic defeated No. 24 Jiri Lehecka in three sets (6-3, 6-4, 7-6).
