Running back Jonathan Ward will sign a reserve/future contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the organization announced Monday. As the squad begins to complete its roster of 90 players, Ward is the 18th member to be added after the season.
Ward largely played on special teams during his four appearances for the Steelers. He played a lot of games when injuries were rampant in the room, and he finished the season with five rushes for 22 yards.
Following a rookie minicamp tryout, Ward signed a contract with the Steelers. Despite having a hamstring injury, he had an outstanding training camp and was able to join the practice squad because he is more known for his speed and veteran presence.
In the 2020 NFL Draft, Ward, a Central Michigan native and undrafted free agent, has played for the Arizona Cardinals. Tennessee Titans and New York Jets in the past. The Steelers have now signed three running backs beyond the season, including Aaron Shampklin and Evan Hull, while Najee Harris is anticipated to leave the team this summer.
