In their victory over Penn State on Thursday, Notre Dame had a slow start but was able to take advantage of opportunities to keep the game close in the first half and saw their offense pick up steam in the third and fourth quarters. The Fighting Irish scored the game-winning field goal with ten seconds left, scored 17 points in the fourth quarter, and made a crucial interception on Penn State quarterback Drew Allar late in the last quarter. Riley Leonard of Notre Dame led his side with 80 rushing yards thanks to his strong legs, and with 4:38 remaining, he connected with Jaden Greathouse for a 54-yard touchdown to knot the score at 24-24. After Allar’s first interception of the game set up the Irish with a short field, kicker Mitch Jeter completed the victory with a 41-yard field goal.

However, with victories over No. 9 Tennessee (42-17) in the first round, No. 1 Oregon (41-21) in the quarterfinals, and No. 5 Texas (28-14) in the semifinals, the Buckeyes earned the right to prove that they had the potential to be a national champion during a 10-2 campaign.
