Steven Jones, a former lineman for the Jacksonville Jaguars, has agreed to a reserve/future deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. During the previous year’s draft season, Jones visited Pittsburgh prior to the draft.
Jones signed a contract with the Jaguars after going undrafted. He spent the entire season on the team’s practice squad and did not participate in any games this season. He will now sign with the Steelers in the hopes of pushing for a spot on the squad.
Jones, who stands 6 feet 5 and weighs 342 pounds, started for Oregon for several years. Jones’ status was ruined by his subpar testing, but he has a place in the NFL as a body-moving mauler.
The Steelers added two guards on Tuesday in addition to Doug Nester, who is a guard by profile. He appeared to be versatile at his position, playing both guard and tackle on both sides during his time at Oregon.
As part of their reserve/future signings, the Steelers acquired 17 players.
