Officials say an Amtraktrain in Lancaster County injured a youngster in the Hempfield School District last weekend.

Around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, Amtrak train 663, which was on its way to Harrisburg from New York City, collided with the unidentified person on the tracks, according to Amtrak Police.

According to Amtrak, the incident took place on the tracks behind the Amos Herr House in Landisville, as reported by WGAL-TV8.

The extent of the student’s injuries remains unknown. Neither the school district nor Amtrak Police disclosed the student’s age or grade.

Amtrak verified that none of the 138 passengers or crew members on the train were hurt. East Hempfield Township Police and Amtrak are looking into the incident.

The Federal Railroad Administration reports that events at railroad crossings are the second most common cause of rail-related fatalities in America, after trespassing on railroad tracks.

Amtrak collaborates with Operation Lifesavert to raise awareness of the risks associated with the train sector.
