At 1:05 a.m. on Saturday, the National Weather Service upgraded their forecast for lake effect snow in Northern Erie, Southern Erie, and Crawford County through 4 a.m.
Radar detected a strong lake effect snow band at 1:03 a.m. along a line that ran from Mentor to the near northeast to Conneaut. This strong snow belt caused by the lake effect was almost motionless. Parts of eastern Lake, northern Ashtabula, and northern and central Erie counties are currently almost impassable. In Erie County, significant portions of I-90 and I-86 are closed. A state of emergency has been imposed in Erie County as a result of the lake effect snow storm. Road crews will not be able to keep up with the snowfall in northern Ashtabula County and eastern Lake County, which is now seeing the highest snow rates. The weather service advises against driving in these locations unless absolutely necessary.
The following locations are affected by the alert: Euclid, Mentor, Willoughby, Eastlake, Edinboro, Geneva, North East, Madison, Girard, North Kingsville, Perry, Waterford, Erie, Painesville, Ashtabula, Willowick, Conneaut, Chardon, Fairport Harbor, Geneva-On-The-Lake, and Euclid.
