Another encouraging report has emerged in a day full of both positive and negative news for Penn State.

The starting quarterback, Drew Allar, has formally committed to returning to Penn State in 2025 after making an ambiguous announcement about his intention to do so back in December. Dane Brugler, an NFL Draft analyst for The Athletic, broke the news Monday afternoon, stating that Allar had considered his NFL input before making the choice.

Allar might have been able to alter his plan and go to the next level if the comments had been more encouraging. The memorable picture of his backbreaking interception versus Notre Dame in the closing seconds of the Orange Bowl was the culmination of his erratic run in the College Football Playoffs.

Allar completed 58 of 109 passing attempts (53.2%) for 659 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions throughout the Big Ten Championship and three CFP games. He occasionally displayed first-round promise with spectacular passes, but he also made perplexing choices against Oregon and Notre Dame. He finished the 2024 season third all-time at Penn State with 3,327 yards and 16 starts.

Allar has 6,302 career throwing yards and 53 touchdowns at Penn State going into his senior year. His career completion rate of 62.9% is now the highest in the history of the program.

Two Penn State athletes accessed the transfer site on Monday. According to reports, defensive coordinator Tom Allen came very close to accepting the same role at Clemson. As soon as running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen announced their return to Penn State, the news rapidly improved. With the highest expectations in the program’s history, Allar, Singleton, and Allen will now guide Penn State into the 2025 season.
